Welcome to COVID Basketball and Draft Evaluation

Welcome back Ballers, pretty much everyone here is a returning player. I'm going to try to be consistent with write ups this season, as I have a decent amount of free time. If you want to contribute anything to the write up I would be happy to accommodate you. For example, Patrick has submitted matchup projections for the week. So if you want to do something like that or have a featured column or whatever.

I wanted to start this season off with a brief review of everyone's draft. A quick over view of what I think your squad is good at as well as best and worst value picks of the draft.

1. Nocturnal Gunuva Sun - With one of the younger teams in the league, NGS will have his work cut out for him. A decent amount of his players are wrapped in uncertainty. Young players like Toppins, Bazley, and Boucher will have a lot to prove. Guys like Gordon Hayward on a new team will also be a mystery. This team's strength is anchored in its assists, blocks, and rebs. This team may struggle in points, 3s, and steals. I will predict Dejounte Murray as his value pick of the draft, especially with White out for a bit. I can't decide if I hate the Griffin pick at 8 or the Payton pick at 11. Let's go with Payton because he's a Knick, Griffin may still have a bit left in the tank. I'm also very interested in what Christian Wood does this season, and is my runner up for value pick. It's all a game of rap cat and mouse to NGS.

2. A Slice Called Quest - An overall solid squad, led by top picks of Jokic, Bam, and Drummond. I'm very high on Bam this year and I think he will be apart of many good teams across fantasy leagues this season. This team excels at Rebs, Ast, Blcks and FG%, although this team may struggle with points, 3s, steals, and FT%. I hate saying this, but I think Lonzo is your best pick of the draft in the 5th round. Hopefully his improved shot mechanics translate to production on the court. I hate the Drummond pick in the 3rd round, he'll get plenty of boards and good fg% but that's about it. Hopefully some more blocks from him. Not a bad draft given he did this in the middle of the night. He is the defending champ after all...

3. James Merriman - A newcomer to the league, but a fantasy veteran, JM had a solid draft. His solid draft may be derailed by strip club visits as his first overall pick just can't enjoy a quiet night at home once in a while. This team is strong in points, 3s, assists and somewhat blocks. This team has limited weakness with turnovers and steals as his only glaring holes. These projections hinge on his player's health issues (i.e. porzingis), but the outlook is positive. His steal of the draft has to be Thomas Bryant if he can stay healthy. The young big man can put up double doubles with ease if he can stay on the court. I almost picked Harden sliding to you at the 3 spot, but his antics have stripped him of his title. Wack pick of the draft is D'angelo Russell in the 4th round, but maybe he'll prove me wrong this year.

4. Siakam Madique - This squad got a stud in Anthony Davis as their first pick. He does it all folks, and will pair well with stat grabbers Donny Mitchell and SGA. This team is strong in points, 3s, asts, and blocks. This team lacks in steals, turnovers, and just slightly in rebs. My steal of the draft would be Wiggins in the 7th round. Even though he had a dud on his season debut, I still think he will put up more value than his 7th round selection. Wack pick of the draft is  Bledsoe at 6, I just don't believe he can carve out enough of a role in Mil with all the talent there, especially with the arrival of Jrue Holiday.

5. Hot  Stove Contact - Drafted Tatum first and Middleton 3rd and quickly shipped them off for Curry. After the trade, this team appears to do well in points, 3s, asts and somewhat in rebs. This team may struggle in steals, blocks and turnovers. I like your VanVleet selection in the 4th round. I think he'll have a good season and take more control of the ball next to the aging Lowry. Michael Porter Jr. in the 6th round could be your bust of the draft or your gold mine. High risk high reward!

6. I could Caris less - Drafted Steph Curry but quickly traded him for the young gun Tatum and the veteran Middleton. This team should do well in ast, blocks and fg% and may have some trouble with rebs, steals, and ft%. I like your Markelle Fultz pick in the 9th round, and I think he could turn out to be a diamond this season. Not a huge fan of your Mitchell Robinson pick in 4th round, but maybe with a consistent coach in Thibs, Mitchell can start to produce consistently.

7. Katastrophic - is looking good with Towns, Butler and Murray as his top 3 picks. All solid players at the top of their games. This squad should excel at points, 3s, ast, and ft%, while rebs, steals and turnovers may be an issue. I think Lowry in the 4th round was a decent value pick, Lowry is old(er), but can still produce at a high level. I'm not a huge fan of Sexton in the 7th round, but maybe he'll finally step up into a leadership role this year.

8. Consider the Kings - This team is stacked and not a lot needs to be said. It'll probably be top team in the regular season and finish first in playoffs. Every pick was amazing and there are no weaknesses. We can just move on to the next team.

9. RimmyTinTin - with the autodraft special. It's not a bad team, but there are some injury prone fellas and strait up injured guys. This team, when healthy, should be good at points, 3s, ast and fg%, while it may struggle with steals and turnovers. Yahoo's best pick was getting Kawhi in the second round. Yahoo's worst pick was getting injured white and JJJ at 8 and 7. If this team can get healthy it could be a force.

10. Nocturnal Sunuva Gun - This team had 4 nice picks in a row with Lillard, KD, LaVine and Fox. I think getting KD in the second round was a steal. The true King, Kevin Durant, will reign supreme again this year. All the doubters will be shut up. Not a huge fan of the Lauri pick in the 6th round, if he can be a bit more dynamic this year it could be a good pick. This team should do well in points, 3s, and assists, while struggling with rebs and steals.

11. Thicc n roll - A former league champion, TNR went with homer pick for his first overall. I love Kelly Oubre Jr in the 6th round and I think he could end up a top 40 players, while I hate your John Wall in the 5th round. May be a bit of a reach, especially with Harden giving him covid. Bad teammate. This team should do well in assists and fg% and struggle with turnovers and steals. Hopefully Zion can have a solid full season this year also.

12. Lukat Me! Lukat Me! - Finally we come to LMLM, who got the young stud Doncic first. He should pair nicely with Westbrook. I like your Oladipo at 6 and your Bagley at 8, both are low risk and high reward. Not crazy about Love at 7, but he should still be solid enough. This team looks to be strong in pts, 3s, and assits, while it may struggle with rebs, blocks and turnovers.

Good luck during this first week and consider the knicks. They play at 4pm today against the Pacers, you should all purchase league pass just to watch them play. cheers.
